In 1996, he founded Psikotik Bozukluklar Ara?t?rma Program? (the Psychotic Disorders Research Program, PAP) within the Department of Psychiatry at Istanbul University. After participating in psychosocial skills training programs at University of California -Los Angeles (UCLA) and Brentwood VA Hospital in 1998, he initiated group therapy applications for psychosis patients in the outpatient and inpatient clinics of Istanbul University.

His primary research and interest areas include first-episode schizophrenia, recognizing and treating individuals at risk for psychosis, treatment-resistant schizophrenia, and the stigma associated with schizophrenia. He has implemented individual, family, and group therapies for psychotic disorders.

Since 2001, he has coordinated the Turkish branch of the WPA campaign against stigma and discrimination related to schizophrenia. He is a member of the WPA Schizophrenia Section, WPA Stigma and Mental Disorders Section, and the European Psychiatry Association Schizophrenia Section. Additionally, he participates in international research collaborations such as TRRIP, STRATA, and EURONES. He has authored 126 articles in international journals with over 5,000 citations.
